Detours?

Do you sometimes feel as if your life has taken or is taking a DETOUR? Do you feel it’s not quite where it’s “supposed” to be? By its very nature, detours are unexpected and can feel a bit tiresome, confusing and frustrating.
Nobody likes to deviate from a carefully planned life. But detours will always teach you something…
Pay close attention when life takes surprising turns. Seek God and ask Him to prepare you for whatever lies ahead. Pray to discern God’s will because He may have something astonishing waiting for you.
Consider what happened in Exodus 13:17-18: “When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’ So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.”
Do you remember what happened at the Red Sea? The Israelites and Egyptians witnessed one of the most amazing displays of God’s power when He parted the mighty sea! The faith of His people was greatly strengthened at the splendour of God’s dominance (Exodus 13:31); God’s detour allowed that!
Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
God’s plans may not always make sense but when presented with an unexpected turn in life, you must always “trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
Trust in His heart. Trust in God’s intentions and faithfulness. The truth is – not a single one of our plan, no matter how carefully constructed and thought-out, will ever come close to God’s perfect plan – even with all its detours!
